Ban Fur Farming in Ireland

Currently, there are 5 fur factory farms licensed in Ireland.

After a number of undercover investigations by Respect for Animals into conditions on fur factory farms in Ireland, in 2004 the Fur Farming Prohibition Bill 2004 Private Members' bill was introduced.

Although the bill was defeated by the then government's TDs by 67 to 50, it won support from all opposition parties, including the now ruling parties Fine Gael and The Labour Party.

It was the previous coalition government's policy (as stated in its Renewed Prgramme for Government) to phase out fur farming and Respect for Animals, in conjunction with ARAN in Ireland and Anima in Denmark, is now calling on the new Irish government to honour that policy and introduce a ban on fur farming.

The Irish Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Simon Coveney TD, established a Review Group to review all aspects of fur farming.  Respect for Animals made a full and comprehensive submission to this Review and is awaiting the outcome with interest.

Fur farming is already banned in the whole of the UK, including Northern Ireland.

Please visit banfurfarms.ie to see footage from the latest undercover investigation and to email all Irelands TDs urging them to act NOW.

Please email the Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny taoiseach@taoiseach.gov.ie urging him to do the right, humane thing and ban cruel fur factory farms in Ireland.
