Design Against Fur exhibition at dreamspace

Respect for Animals hosts an exhibition of the 2009 Design Against Fur student design competition at the dreamspace gallery in London, from Tuesday 1 September to Wednesday 30 September 2009.

All the exhibited artworks have been produced by UK based students.

Mink Farming to Be Banned by The World’s Third Largest Producing Country

On 30 June a majority in the Dutch Parliament voted in favour of a bill banning the farming of mink for fur on ethical grounds.

Canada’s annual seal hunt ends after only a quarter of the quota is reached

The quota for this year’s hunt off the east coast of Canada had been set at 338,000 but has now closed and official figures show that 70,000 seals were in fact killed.  Fishermen in Newfoundland and Labrador, eastern Canada, took some 70,000 seals.  The fishermen taking part in the hunt blame a drastic fall in pelt prices brought about by the (then) impending European Union ban on seal products which was passed on 5 May and is expected to come into effect in October.

Denmark Bans Fox Farming

A bill to ban the farming of fox in Denmark was passed on 29 May 2009. The legislation cites on moral grounds as it was deemed impossible to meet the welfare needs of foxes in factory farm conditions.
