Yesterday a new law was introduced in New York State requiring all real fur and fur-trimmed clothing sold in the state - the nation’s largest fur buying market - to be labelled as ‘real fur’. The law goes further and requires all garments made of or trimmed with fake fur to be labelled ‘fake fur’ so that customers can make an ethical choice.
The law comes into effect on 13 November 2007.

Good weather conditions allowed observers out to witness the continuation of the cruel and bloody seal hunt in the Gulf of St Lawrence.
Observers saw sealers failing to follow any of the Marine Mammal Regulations designed to ensure that seals are dead before skinning. Sealers jumped onto the ice pans, ran across the ice and clubbed each seal only once before moving on, without checking to ensure the seals were dead. The sealer would then stab the thrashing seal with a boat hook and then it onto the boat. There, the sealers cut open the pups and peeled their skins off, tossing the bloody carcasses into the sea.
