DAF 2008 - China student wins both top prizes

For the first time ever, both the Grand Prize and People’s Choice Awards have been presented to the same student.

Feng Chen, of Beijing’s Renmin University, had already been awarded 1st place in the DAF China regional contest, then his artwork went on to win both top prizes, scooping a total prize money of $3500 US Dollars.

The Grand Prize is judged by the Fur Free Alliance, a group of 35 animal protection organisations from around the world, who promote the Design Against Fur competition.  The People’s Choice Award is awarded to the student whose work attracts the most public votes online.  This is the first time one student has won both prizes.

Commenting on his artwork, Feng Chen said that he didn’t want his anti-fur poster to be bloody and cruel, but he wanted both kids and adults to know the truth about fur fashion, so he chose a thoughtful scene, that could lead people to think more about the background of what had happened to make the fur collar and coat.

Our key goals

Respect for Animals campaigns against the cruel and unnecessary international fur trade, believing fur farming and trapping to be morally indefensible.
