Design Against Fur 2004

The judging took place in London on 14 May.  The judging panell included actress/fashion designer Sadie Frost, Robert Bean of advertising agency banc, Shelly Vella the fashion editor of Cosmopolitan magazine and Mark Glover of Respect for Animals.

The winners were informed on 17 May by email or letter.  The theme of the competition was the use of fur as trim rather than full length coats.  There were 409 entries from 42 colleges. 

They were :  First place Mikael Friden of Central St Maetin’s College of Art, Second place Patti Gallagher of Somerset College of Art & Technology and Third place Natalie Brown of Portsmouth University.  Alun Gallier of North East Worcestershire College won the special Richard Adams award of a digital camera. 

The presentation of the top three prizes and the special Richard Adams award took place at Artbank Gallery, Clerkenwell Road, London on 14 June between 6 & 8pm.  The winning designs and the 25 deemed highly commended formed part of an exhibition at the gallery from 15-19 June, together with the winning and highly commended designs from the European round of the competition.  The exhibition was free of charge and everyone was welcome.

The Grand prize was won by Mike Blain of Kitchener in Canda.  He was presented with his prize in Budapest by the renowned Hungarian dane artist Yvette Bozsik at a press condernce.
