Agriculture Minister Shalom Simhon proposed a bill for the inclusion of all animal fur to the existing bill that prohibits the trade in dog and cat fur. If the bill becomes law, Israel will be the first country in the world to ban all fur.
The original bill prohibiting only the trade of cat and dog fur was approved on its first reading. The bill now goes to a vote by the Education, Culture & Sports Ministry committee later in the month and, if approved, the bill will be go to a second and then third reading before finally being past into law.
The bill excludes the trade in fur intended for religious purposes, allowing the ultra-Orthodox community to continue to manufacture shtreimels, a traditional fur hat.

Our key goals
Respect for Animals campaigns against the cruel and unnecessary international fur trade, believing fur farming and trapping to be morally indefensible.
