Building on the international success of the Fur Free Retailers scheme, Respect for Animals will today (1 September) launch an online petition urging compassionate shoppers to sign in support of the animals, and to help persuade even more retailers to pledge to become totally fur free.
Mark Glover, Director of Respect for Animals said today: “Compassionate consumers tell us that they want to buy their cruelty-free fashion from shops that do not profit from the cruel and unnecessary fur trade.
“And many retailers want to make a difference and to distinguish themselves from other retailers who profit from the cruel and unnecessary fur trade. By signing up to the Fur Free Retailers scheme, they are doing just that. They are taking a stand against animal cruelty.
“By not selling fur, leading retailers can make a difference to the lives of millions of animals abused, maimed, and killed on fur factory farms or trapped in the wild for their fur, every year, just in the name of fashion.”
The Fur Free Retailers scheme is an international project organised in the UK by Respect for Animals a member of the Fur Free Alliance, to provide consumers with accurate information about a retailer’s fur policy, allowing consumers to make an informed choice when shopping. The scheme works by establishing positive relationships with, and offering support to, those retailers who have committed, in writing, to a no fur policy.
